HRC Honda’s Tim Gajser took the first MXGP win of the day at Matterley, for the first MXGP race of the day at Winchester.
Red Bull Factory GasGas rider Jorge Prado grabbed the Fox hole and took the lead on the opening lap of the first MXGP bike of the day, with Monster Energy Factory Yamaha Jeremy Seewer following close behind in second, while that teammate Glenn Coldenhoff sat in third place for the opening laps.
Honda 114 Motorsports rider Ruben Fernandez got off to a better start, but then teamed up with SM Action Racing Teams Alberto Forato and crashed out of the race, eventually stopping. Meanwhile, Gajser and Monster Energy Yamaha Maxime Renaux fought each other, as the qualifying race the winner slipped to fifth.
Seewer was all over Prado’s back to put the pressure on, as Prado errs in allowing the Swiss driver to fly to take the lead early in the race. Gajser then made a move and passed Prado to move into second place, and started chasing Seewer.
Kawasaki’s Ben Watson had a much better result from yesterday’s qualifying race, finishing eleventh, looking much more comfortable on the bike.
Heading into the final two laps, Seewer made a mistake coming out of the lead, allowing Gasjer to take the lead and win the first MXGP race of the season.
