For Dean, who only entered the premier class in 2018, and became the youngest rider to represent Ireland at the Quadcross of Nations in Germany in 2019, it was a dream come true.
“It’s been a long time coming and I had come to a point where I thought it would never happen,” he said.
“I was under a lot of pressure from Mark (McLernon) for the first five laps and then he made a slight mistake which gave me a bit of a break and all I had to do was take my marks every round and bring it home.I just can’t believe it.
Defending champion Mark McLernon tried everything to overtake Dillon in the opening race, but on the narrow Seaford track the Hillsborough driver went slightly wrong at the hairpin, grabbed a post and fell to third place behind Justin Reid.
With Dillon now on his way to a well-deserved victory, McLernon finally forced his way past Reid with a few laps to go for second place.
The second race saw McLernon leading the flag gate on the “Quad Bikes ‘r’ us Yamaha” with Murry Graham and Justin Reid completing the grandstand positions.
Dean Dillon, who was behind McClernon in the first round, dropped to fourth place under the flag.
Murry Graham led the third race from the gate but turned his machine around on the second corner and while Dillon rounded the outside McLernon dived in and went from fourth to first place.
It was McLernon’s second win of the day and enough to secure another overall victory before he heads to Gusses Gorse this weekend with the rest of our top quad riders for the fifth round of the championship. Nora MX.
Jack Young of Lisburn was the semi-expert overall winner.
Neil Campbell and Ross Graham continued their dominance of the sidecar category with three wins in three starts.
They haven’t been beaten this season at home and after a strong performance in the British Championship the week before where they finished third in race two, no one was going to stand in their way at Seaford.
“We were feeling great heading into this round after a strong result for the Brits,” said Neil.
“Today was a good motorcycle moment for our British Championship campaign which continues at the end of the month. It would be great to see Gary Molds and Lewis Gray back on track as it still allows for competitive home races in particular. ”
Jonathan Wilson and Andrew Rowan as well as Dean Faulkner and Curtis Beck completed the top three in all races.
Riley Quinn was the big winner in the Auto category.
Connor Bradley had to fight his way from last to third in his first 100cc junior race after crashing into the hairpin while leading. Two victories in the following two races were enough for the victory in the general classification.
The final round of the Revo British MX Championship at Canada Heights saw Stuart Edmonds, Glenn McCormick and Richard McKeown in action in the premier MX1 class. After qualifying 13th on the Apico Husqvarna, Edmonds finished ninth overall behind Yamaha’s Harri Kullas.
Edmonds said: “I had all kinds of problems and only managed two qualifying laps, but I moved up to sixth in the first race after struggling from the start.
“In the second race I found myself behind a slower group at the start and when I passed them I fought to tenth place before a puncture in the back dropped me to 12th .
Glenn McCormick finished 11th overall on the Chambers Husqvarna.
