Orange HOG Chapter, Nation of Patriots Helps Ruckersville Area Veteran

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Harley-Davidson enthusiasts in Orange County are making life a little better for a Vietnam veteran.

The Orange Harley Owners Group Chapter presented a check to Richard Bennett on Wednesday, March 9, which will help with access issues. The Ruckersville man is the first area veteran the chapter and Nation of Patriots are able to help.

“Mr. Bennett is a veteran of the Vietnam era, just like me,” said Orange HOG chapter member Larry Goldstein.

Bennett suffered a series of strokes and struggled to leave his house. Wednesday’s donation will pay for a new wheelchair ramp to help the veteran.

“We struggled for a year just trying to find someone,” Richard’s wife Maggie Bennett said.

This support goes beyond a check, there is a deeper connection for the chapter: “Harley riders are a lot of veterans, a lot of military,” said Evan Bache, co-owner of Stonewall Harley-Davidson .

Stonewall Harley-Davidson and HOG raised funds for Nation of Patriots, which supports veterans and their families.

“These are actually people who really try hard to help other people, they’re just, you know, they just don’t hand over the check. They work really hard, they give themselves body and soul,” said Maggie Bennett.

“I think it’s important even though I wasn’t a veteran, it just means a bit more because I am and we have a lot of veterans in our chapter,” Goldstein said. “So it is important to take care of our brothers and sisters who have given everything and those who are here in need. We just think it’s the right thing to do.

Construction of the ramp will begin next week and construction company, Paul Davis Restoration of Virginia, has made it a priority project.
