UPDATE: Joshua Meaux’s family members say his body has been found; he had been missing since Friday evening.
Police were called at around 5 p.m. on Jefferson Island Road at Rip Van Winkle Road in Iberia Parish on Sunday.
Meaux was reported missing Saturday morning to Abbeville police by members of his family. The initial State Police investigation found that Meaux was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Jefferson Island Road when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a left turn and exited the roadway from the right.
Meaux was thrown from the motorcycle, which became completely submerged after entering a sinkhole. Meaux, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, died at the scene. The alteration is unknown, but a standard toxicological sample was obtained for analysis. This accident is still under investigation.
Meaux’s wife posted on social media this evening that he was involved in a motorcycle accident.
Earlier today, we reported that family and police were looking for the Abbeville man.
Meaux, 34, was last seen at Culpepper’s Friday night. It started from there on a 2005 Harley Davidson Roadster 883. It was last seen around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
